Job Description

The Director of Engineering is responsible for all maintenance operations, ensuring that the physical condition of the property is maintained according to company operating and safety standards, and that guest quality standards are met.

The incumbent will manage all engineering operations for the facilities, including electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, heating/cooling, structural, and grounds care, as well as overseeing all vendors and support staff working with the Engineering Department.

The Director of Engineering is accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. They will also ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

They will liaise and collaborate with the owning company to conduct inspections and oversee improvement projects to ensure quality standards are upheld.

General Responsibilities
  • Manage and organize a maintenance team responsible for proper maintenance and repair of the entire hotel building and equipment, within budget and management norms.
  • Plan, schedule, control, coordinate, and participate in maintenance activities.
  • Oversee the operation of the maintenance department, ensuring the overall condition and maintenance of the property, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and systems.
  • Ensure the security and safety of all equipment and buildings.
  • Participate in hotel management decision-making and ensure implementation within the maintenance department.
  • Implement the hotel’s vision and business action plans within the maintenance team.
  • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and rules set by management.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities across various hotel systems, including HVAC, electrical, water, fire safety, kitchen, laundry, and gas systems.
  • Develop and enforce maintenance standards.
  • Regularly inspect the hotel to assess the condition of buildings and equipment.
  • Ensure all hotel equipment is in good working order, managing repairs, replacements, and disposals as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation standards of hotel equipment and facilities.
  • Conduct sanitation and maintenance inspections regularly.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing to source quality supplies and optimize costs.
  • Control costs and maintain an adequate inventory of tools and spare parts.
  • Prepare and manage maintenance staff schedules.
  • Follow preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment.
  • Stay updated on Indonesian legislations and licensing requirements related to engineering and safety.
  • Manage departmental budgets and expenses.
  • Oversee procurement of equipment and spare parts, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Set inventory par levels and monitor deliveries and stock levels.
  • Develop annual budgets in collaboration with the Financial Controller and Hotel Management.
  • Stay informed about new products, energy-saving strategies, and equipment pricing.
  • Implement energy-saving initiatives and train staff accordingly.
  • Update energy consumption data in the GAIA portal monthly.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a Chief Engineer
  • Operational experience in a hotel environment is essential
  • Experience in a luxury five-star environment is required
  • Knowledge of local regulations related to engineering is mandatory
