Title and Summary

Director, Business Development, Small Medium Enterprises

The Small Business segment team drives opportunities within Southeast Asia to grow and defend our business profitably and sustainably.

Our key activities include:

  1. Identifying and developing new business
  2. Identifying and driving strategic partnerships
  3. Providing deep sales expertise to our partners and powering their growth

The Director, Small Business Segment, based in Jakarta, Indonesia, will be part of the Commercial and New Payments Flow team responsible for advancing Mastercard’s Small Business efforts in Southeast Asia. The position reports to the Vice President, Small Business Segment Lead, SEA division.

The individual will be responsible for driving strategy, business development, analysis, and reporting. This role will be the single point of contact for all SME business development and sales to external partners.

The key objectives of this role are to drive growth of the Small Business portfolios, achieve targets in new wins, spend volumes, revenue, and market share through activities such as:

  • Possessing deep knowledge of payment market products and programs from issuer, acquirer, and end-user perspectives. Developing strategies and recommending new, differentiated features to enhance sales and optimization strategies for existing and prospective bank partners, third-party partners, fintech partners, and startup communities to drive new business and incremental growth for Mastercard's Small Business portfolio.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across various teams and partners to support new launches and go-to-market initiatives.
  • Providing consultative sales enablement during complex, cross-departmental discussions, leveraging functional skills and understanding of Mastercard's assets.
  • Championing digital enablement (e.g., digital first, contactless, tokenization) within the Small Business space and driving adoption with excellent customer experience.
  • Communicating new products, services, platforms, and enhancements to stakeholders and customers via announcements, briefings, PR, etc.

  • Strong product and business development skills with a proven track record.
  • Relevant industry experience preferred, such as payments, cards, financial services, fintech, startup environment.
  • Ability to initiate new approaches and deliver tangible results.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; a strong team player.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to operate in a cross-functional environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Organizational savvy to navigate a matrixed organization; resilient in a goal-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel regionally.

We seek an individual capable of bundling and selling solutions like Commercial, SME Cards, Digital Payables, Collections, and Lending to Transaction and SME Bankers.
