Job summary

TERA DATA CENTERS PTE. LTD. (“TERA DC”) seeks a Design Manager to lead end-to-end design for APAC data center projects, ensuring compliance with global standards and local codes, while coordinating with engineers, architects, EORs, contractors and vendors.

You will drive multidisciplinary teams, oversee design accuracy, manage submittals and permit processes, and maintain comprehensive design documentation and stakeholder communication across Indonesia and neighboring markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Architecture) or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center design or critical infrastructure systems.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Experience managing design phases from concept through construction documentation and handover.
• Familiarity with sustainability practices in data center design is advantageous.
• Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
• Technical proficiency in data center infrastructure systems (mechanical, electrical, structural).
• Ability to work under tight deadlines while delivering high-quality outcomes.
• Familiarity with hyperscale data center design considerations and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Design Manager will lead and oversee the end-to-end design process for data centre projects across the APAC region, ensuring compliance with Tera’s global design standards, applicable local statutory codes and regulations, and project-specific requirements. The role requires effective coordination among internal teams, consultants, Engineers of Record (EORs), contractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, stakeholder-management capabilities, and multidisciplinary technical expertise.

Offer expert guidance and in-depth technical knowledge for each system (e.g., power, cooling, network infrastructure, structural) to ensure designsreliability

Lead cross-functional SMEs (electrical, mechanical, civil and architectural) to drive outcome, fostering accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence

Take full responsibility for the design's accuracy, compliance, and delivery

Ensure designs align with Tera global standards and local statutory regulations

Address pre/post-construction permits and statutory approvals specific to each jurisdiction

Project Coordination & Management

Manage design submittals during construction phases in coordination with project managers, architects, civil engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other relevant disciplines to seamlessly integrate data center designs into overarching project master plans.

Ensure the proper document control workflow and audit project deliverable to ensure completeness, proper version control and compliance with established requirements and procedures.

Compliance Management

Ensure adherence to international and local building codes, zoning requirements, and statutory approvals

Monitor designs for compliance with sustainability practices and industry-leading standards

Stakeholder and Interface Management

Act as a key liaison between internal engineering teams, project management, clients, regulatory bodies, and external design consultants, ensuring clear, consistent, and timely communication regarding design progress, challenges, and decisions.

Facilitate regular meetings to address design issues, milestones, and escalations as needed

Documentation & Reporting

Prepare, review and approve comprehensive design documentation, including technical specifications, equipment schedules, commissioning plan and progress reports, ensuring all the records are accurate, complete and maintained systematically

Collect feedback from construction and commissioning teams for continuous improvement

Education & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Architecture), or a related technical field is required.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center design or critical infrastructure systems

Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies

Proven experience in managing design phases of complex, multi-disciplinary projects from conceptualization through to construction documentation and handover

Familiarity with sustainability practices in data center design is an advantage

Leadership and project management expertise

Technical proficiency in data center infrastructure systems (mechanical, electrical, structural etc.)

Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality outcomes
