Customs Manager - Based in Semarang, Indonesia

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Customs Manager to join our growing manufacturing operations in Semarang. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all customs-related processes, ensuring compliance with Indonesian customs regulations, and facilitating the smooth import and export of goods. With strong experience in customs operations and excellent relationships with local government agencies, the Customs Manager will play a key role in minimizing delays, reducing costs, and ensuring regulatory compliance across international supply chains.

This position is critical to maintaining operational efficiency within a large-scale manufacturing environment and requires a proactive leader with a deep understanding of customs procedures and trade compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end customs clearance processes for imported raw materials and exported finished goods.
  • Ensure full compliance with Indonesian customs laws, regulations, and documentation requirements (e.g., DJBC regulations).
  • Liaise and maintain strong working relationships with local customs authorities, port agencies, freight forwarders, and other government bodies.
  • Prepare, review, and verify customs documentation including PIB (Pemberitahuan Impor Barang), PE (Pemberitahuan Ekspor), BC forms, and supporting documents.
  • Monitor customs audits, inspections, and assessments; respond promptly to inquiries from customs officials.
  • Optimize customs processes to reduce clearance times, duties, and logistics costs.
  • Lead and mentor a team of customs coordinators and documentation staff.
  • Coordinate with procurement, logistics, finance, and production teams to align customs activities with business operations.
  • Stay updated on changes in trade regulations, tariff classifications, and free trade agreements (e.g., ASEAN, ITPA) that may impact operations.
  • Support internal and external audits related to customs and trade compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in customs operations and digital documentation systems.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in customs operations, preferably within the manufacturing or industrial sector.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing customs clearance processes in Java, especially Semarang and surrounding ports (Tanjung Emas, etc.).
  • Strong connections and established relationships with local DJBC (Directorate General of Customs and Excise) offices and regional government agencies.
  • In-depth knowledge of Indonesian customs regulations, import/export procedures, and tax policies.
  • Experience with customs ERP systems or documentation platforms (e.g., e-Customs, INATRADE, SPSAT).
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English is a must.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High integrity and attention to detail with a focus on compliance and risk mitigation.


Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in manufacturing or mass production industry
  • Familiarity with bonded warehouses (TPB) and fiscal incentives.
  • Certification in customs or supply chain (e.g., GLE, Brevet C/D) is a plus.
