Job description

The Control Room Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the safe, efficient, and compliant commissioning and start-up activities of all plant units from the control room environment. The role includes:

Acting as the main point of control room operations during commissioning and early operational readiness phases.

Overseeing real-time monitoring, start-up sequences, shutdowns, emergency responses, and process adjustments.

Collaborating closely with field operators, engineering, commissioning, maintenance, and vendor teams.

Ensuring control system integrity (DCS, PLC, SCADA) during commissioning phases (C2, C3, C4).

Validating process parameters and operational strategies aligned with design and safety standards.

Supporting alarm management, tuning, and system interlocks verification.

Training, coaching, and mentoring Control Room Operators in commissioning and normal operations.

Driving the transition from commissioning into stable operation, ensuring proper documentation and operational handover to the Operations team.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate the DCS/SCADA system during commissioning and early operation activities.

Execute commissioning procedures, startup, and shutdown sequences according to the commissioning plan.

Coordinate and lead shift operations during commissioning (may include 24/7 shift support).

Monitor plant performance, troubleshoot issues, and escalate as necessary.

Interface with vendors and engineering teams for technical support on system operation.

Participate in system walkdowns, pre-commissioning checks, function tests (loop, interlock, ESD system tests).

Assist in the development and continuous updating of control room operational procedures.

Ensure all operations comply with site safety regulations and best commissioning practices.

Record and report commissioning progress, incidents, plant status, and abnormalities.

Support process optimization initiatives post-commissioning, such as alarm rationalization and advanced control implementation.

Education:

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Process, Chemical, Metallurgical, Electrical, or Instrumentation) or equivalent technical discipline.

Experience:

Minimum 8–10 years of experience in a mineral processing plant (Copper/Gold preferred) with at least:

5 years working as a Senior Control Room Operator or Control Room Supervisor.

2 years in commissioning/start-up activities (pre-commissioning, cold commissioning, hot commissioning phases).

Hands-on experience with DCS, PLC, and SCADA control systems (preferably ABB, Siemens, Honeywell, Yokogawa, or Emerson).

Familiarity with commissioning standards, safe work practices, and risk management processes (e.g., PTW, LOTO, SIMOPS).

Proven experience managing plant operations under dynamic conditions during start-up and shutdowns.

Experience in mining operations (preferably in grinding, flotation, thickening, dewatering, or concentrate handling processes) is highly advantageous.

Skills:

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, control narratives, cause & effect diagrams.

Excellent communication and coordination skills across multi-disciplinary teams.

High level of safety awareness and leadership.

Capable of working under pressure and in a 24/7 shift environment if required during peak commissioning phases.

Certifications (Preferred but not mandatory):

Control system operation and safety certifications.

First Aid & Emergency Response training.
