About the job Central Services - Analyst, Field Cost Estimator #2
Basic Function:
Provide excellent field cost estimation services, including preliminary cost estimation preparation and analysis, data updating, final cost estimation, and detailed master list requirements for all jobsite areas. This ensures the achievement of customer needs and requirements within the budget and timeframe, following Company policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop accurate detailed cost re-estimation based on complete drawings, MTO, and Project Engineer's input to provide precise project cost information.
- Assist Project Engineer in developing re-cost estimation to serve as a project cost reference.
- Review, analyze, and recalculate cost estimations prepared by NOLA and office estimators, considering engineering drawings, specifications, standards, work methods, and other supporting information using WinEst Software to ensure accuracy.
- Periodically update data on labor, material, and equipment unit costs to provide realistic and current cost estimations.
- Evaluate bid tenders and provide technically accountable cost re-estimation recommendations to aid management decision-making.
- Monitor approved AFE cost estimations and execution to ensure objectives are met within resources.
- Maintain an organized filing system for all cost estimation data per project for future reference.
- Prepare estimates for Work Orders to justify operating expenses and meet AFE policy criteria, evaluating each work type.
- Conduct variance analysis of approved and forecasted AFE budgets, communicating with relevant stakeholders to align project scope and costs.
- Prepare change request cost estimates and coordinate review and approval processes with QA/QC, Field Engineering, Construction, and Cost Control prior to work commencement.
Key Challenges:
- Describing a design concept comprehensively, considering all real-world aspects, requiring broad multidisciplinary knowledge and analytical skills.
- Developing accurate cost estimates with minimal information, demanding extensive project engineering and material knowledge.
- Meeting tight deadlines for cost estimation before construction begins, to establish accurate performance baselines.
- Estimating costs for Field Change Requests and Work Orders with limited data, such as photos and sketches.
- Adapting estimates based on actual field conditions.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- At least 10 years of experience as an estimator or scheduler in underground construction projects.
- Proficiency with MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Primavera P6.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and material take-offs.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Values of safety, integrity, commitment, respect, and excellence.
- Safety training, safety certificates, and POP are required for competence.
- Ability to organize and coordinate resources and team efforts across multiple projects.
- Ability to coordinate with all project stakeholders.
