Job Overview:
The Blue Carbon Project Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of multiple blue carbon project sites. This includes overseeing the entire project lifecycle—from pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies and planning to execution and monitoring—across various locations. The role involves ensuring that projects meet international and/or national standards for carbon certification, as well as achieving social and environmental co-benefits. The Blue Carbon Project Manager will work with internal teams, external stakeholders, and local communities to deliver impactful and high-quality carbon projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of blue carbon projects, from Pre-Feasibility assessment (Pre-FS), feasibility assessment (FS) and project description or design (PD) or DRAM to on-the-ground implementation across multiple sites in line with international and/or national carbon standards (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard, SRN).
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project development, execution and delivery of blue carbon projects from Pre-FS, FS, PD/DRAM to implementation.
- Oversee carbon credit development processes, ensuring alignment with global and/or national standards (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard, SRN) and successful certification of projects.
- Supervise and coordinate activities across multiple blue carbon project sites, ensuring consistent and effective management practices.
- Engage with local communities, governments, and partners to promote sustainable practices and ensure projects deliver social and environmental co-benefits.
- Monitor and evaluate project performance in terms of emissions reductions, ecological impact, and financial sustainability across all sites.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations related to blue carbon project development and environmental sustainability.
- Coordinate Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes to track and certify blue carbon emission reductions.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, certification bodies, regulatory authorities, and project partners.
- Stay updated on market trends and regulatory changes to maximize the financial and environmental benefits of the project.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks to project success, including environmental, social, financial, and regulatory risks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in forestry, marine, environmental science, sustainability, natural resource management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in carbon project development or environmental sustainability, with a focus on managing multiple sites.
- Proven experience in the end-to-end development of carbon projects, from planning and site management to certification.
- Strong understanding of carbon standards, methodologies, and certification processes (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard, SRN).
- Project management skills, with experience in managing budgets, timelines, and remote or multi-site teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and communities.
- Experience with GIS, MRV systems, and data management is a must.
