Job summary

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) seeks a Senior Post-Trade Systems Architect to lead the design, implementation and ongoing support of mission-critical post-trade platforms for cash equities and derivatives. You will guide end-to-end delivery, mentor developers and drive security, performance and resilience across the full SDLC.

Job Summary:

IT Post Trade Systems is responsible for the design, implementation and support of systems for the clearing and settlement of cash equities and derivative products, nominee and depository functions, and collateral and risk management platforms.

This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems that underpin Hong Kong’s financial infrastructure. You will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, secure, and scalable solutions.

Job Duties:

This role leads the architecture and end-to-end delivery of mission-critical post-trade systems, covering clearing, settlement and risk-related capabilities for cash equities.

You will manage a team of developers, drive technical excellence, and deliver secure, resilient and scalable solutions across the full software development lifecycle, including production support.

Responsibilites:

• Lead solution architecture and system design for high-availability, high-throughput post-trade platforms and services.
• Take full ownership and accountability for delivery across the SDLC (requirements, design, development, testing, and implementation); manage delivery across complex stakeholder groups.
• Drive parallel delivery across multiple workstreams by planning, prioritising, and coordinating resources across internal teams and vendors where applicable.
• Provide engineering leadership on modern backend practices (microservices, cloud/container, messaging/streaming) and enforce coding, security, and quality standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional technology and business teams to translate requirements into robust technical designs and implementation approaches.
• Manage production support of mission-critical system, lead production incident and problem management (investigation, resolution, root cause analysis and prevention) and drive continuous improvement for stability and performance.
  
  

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree (or above) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant hands-on experience in system design and development. Experience in driving greenfield project implementations in financial services is highly desirable.
• Minimum 3 years in management and/or technical leadership capacity, with proven experience leading developers and owning delivery outcomes.
• Strong track record delivering mission-critical systems with complex stakeholder environments; excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Java engineering, including API design, concurrency, performance tuning, and troubleshooting production issues.
• Strong experience with microservices architecture, containers/Kubernetes, and messaging/streaming (e.g., Kafka, ActiveMQ, IBM MQ); solid understanding of cloud-native patterns is preferred.
• Familiar with modern DevOps/engineering toolchains (e.g., source control, CI/CD, unit/integration testing, static analysis, artifact management) and quality practices.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent analytical, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and stakeholders in large organizations.
• Proven ability to unify and lead teams with diverse skill sets, fostering motivation and inspiration.
