Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-TrackAssociate Professor/Assistant Professor of Microelectronics in theDepartment of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 536304), tocommence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis,with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure beforethe expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers B.Eng., M.Sc.,M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programmes. The University of Hong Konghas a highly ranked engineering school and an active MechanicalEngineering Programme. The Department employs about 35 full-timefaculty members and has well-equipped teaching and researchfacilities and support. The research environment is vibrant.Frontier research efforts are promoted and conducted in strategicareas related to this post, including but not limited tomicro/nanofabrication, electronic/photonic materials and devices,advanced manufacturing, electrochemical engineering, micro/nanomechanics, and intelligent robotic systems. Advanced microelectronics plays a critical role in drivinginnovation and technological advancements across various industriesand is the foundation of today’s interconnected world. We areparticularly interested in candidates who have expertise inadvanced micro/nanofabrication processes, such as nanolithography,advanced thin film deposition and etching, etc.; 3D integratedcircuits, such as heterogeneous integration, high-densityinterconnects, wafer bonding, thermal management, etc.; advancedpackaging technologies, such as system-in-package, flip-chippackaging, etc.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in a related engineeringfield, with an excellent research record. Candidates with industryexperience or strong connections to the industry are preferred. Theappointee is expected to conduct frontier research innext-generation microelectronics technology, deliver high-qualityteaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students, engage inknowledge transfer activities, and provide administrative supportto the University/Faculty/Department. He/She will also engage inunparalleled opportunities to interact with industrial partners andhelp reshape and elevate the microelectronics industry in one ofthe world’s fastest-growing regions.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications andexperience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medicalbenefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% ofgross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuityand University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme,totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will beprovided as applicable.
