Tesco Sourcing has been responsible for sourcing Tesco’s non-food products from across the world since 1977. We deliver fashion and home products with great value in mind for our customers.

Our headquarters are in Hong Kong and we have hubs based in China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Turkey. We also have colleagues based within our offices in Central Europe, as well as smaller hubs in Cambodia, Vietnam and Pakistan.

Our colleagues in Tesco Sourcing undertake a wide range of different roles managing our supply base across all clothing & home categories, ensuring the quality and safety of both our products and the factories we partner, as well as a maintaining the integrity of our supply chain from an ethical and sustainability standpoint, something that is core to our strategy. Lastly, we also have a number of colleagues across Finance, People and Technology, ensuring the day to day running of our operation.

We are now recruiting for a Sustainability Analyst to be based in either Hong Kong or Shanghai. The successful candidate will have a passion for sustainability, data, enjoys working across varied cultures, and able to interact and communicate confidently with different stakeholders, both internally and externally.

About the role

This role reports to our Technical Manager – Fabric in the UK, who is based in Hong Kong, and will play a vital role in supporting the implementation of Tesco’s ambitious Planet Plan, which addresses our environmental impact on climate and nature. The successful candidate will use their expertise to help improve reporting, performance and achieve sustainability goals across the entire supply chain, from farmers to direct suppliers. Manage the housekeeping of documentation, liaising with key peers and business stakeholders to ensure our sustainability reports and assessments are produced to the required standard.

About the team

The Sustainability Team, sits within the broader Fabric team in Sourcing, and is responsible for implementing the Planet Plan. Ensuring the company and all levels of our supply chain can deliver our external sustainability commitments, as well as championing best practices internally and externally.

Our Sourcing strategy is all about empowerment. This means we trust our suppliers to deliver our high standards and we work in partnership with them to monitor their performance. Our focus is to develop, support and train their team members to consistently maintain standards that meet/exceed Tesco’s sustainability expectations.

Central to our Planet Plan is our commitment to reaching net zero across our full value chain by 2050. So, as well as working closely with a wide variety of internal functions & experts to build change within Tesco, our team actively participates in industry initiatives. This involves working collaboratively to drive transformation and systematic change across the industry as a whole, including SDGs and Paris agreements.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to represent Tesco in some of these forums, working with industry stakeholders to shape requirements for development of sustainability best practices now and for the future.

You will be responsible for

  • Supporting the delivery of the Tesco Planet Plan and external commitments (ZDHC, Greenpeace Detox, Cotton Pledge, Canopy, Textile Exchange, Textile 2030, TMC & etc) by working with our supply chain partners at all levels to provide data through different platforms and ensure sources are valid and traceable for reporting
  • Working in close collaboration with our Fabric & Technical teams across all Sourcing hubs and in the UK to identify gaps and drive performance across our supply chain
  • Working on projects that support our supply chain to achieve sustainability compliance and goals
  • Supporting our supply chain partners’ capability building through delivery of awareness and training
  • Feeding into our business dashboard and reports relevant external environmental & sustainability assessments (HIGG FEM/Amfori BEPI)
  • Conducting due diligence on our sustainability programs to improve ways of working
  • Engaging with stakeholders and attending relevant industry group calls to represent Tesco and provide expert input
  • Working with 3rd parties and stakeholders to collect data to complete sustainability dashboards or insights upon request

You will need

  • Understanding of consumer goods and raw material manufacturing processes
  • Experience of managing and delivering projects
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical skills, self-starter, with an eye for detail. Proficiency in MS Office – Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to write compelling presentations using data to share ideas
  • Comfortable working independently or within a team, often across Tesco Sourcing regions.
