Job summary

CLSA in Hong Kong is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to lead complex issues and guide the team. You will work closely with IT stakeholders, vendors and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality database services.

You will manage PostgreSQL and MySQL environments, perform backups, tuning and migrations, and participate in on-call rotations. Strong English communication is required; Chinese language skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree/above in Computer Science, MIS or related.
• Around 10 years of relevant experience including database admin, database programming.
• Candidates with less experience could be considered as Sr Analyst.
• Strong knowledge of database installation, upgrades and migration.
• Experience in PostgreSQL and MySQL patches and fixes.
• Experience in database architecture, logical and physical design, automation, documentation, installs, shell scripting, PL/SQL programming, catalog navigation, query tuning, system tuning, resource contention analysis, backup and recovery, standby, replication, etc.
• Strong understanding of command line and database server administration.
• Capacity planning for all aspects of a database system (storage, compute, memory, etc.).
• Ability to work non-standard shift including nights and/or weekend on-call responsibilities.
• Understanding of networking and connectivity and how it relates to a database environment.
• Good team player. Capable of working under pressure and dynamic environment with minimal supervision
• Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills in English, and Chinese will be of advantage

Responsibilities

• Provide DBA PostgreSQL / MySQL support for application development teams.
• Ensure integrity, availability, security and performance of PostgreSQL / MySQL database systems by providing technical support and maintenance.
• Monitor database uptime, performance and recommend improvements for operational efficiency.
• Assist in capacity planning, space management and data maintenance activities for database system.
• Perform database enhancement and modification as per the requirements.
• Perform database recovery and backup tasks on daily and weekly basis.
• Develop and maintain patches for database environments.
• Identify and recommend database techniques to support business needs.
• Lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, reducing any need downtime.
• Participate in the creation of development, staging, and production database instances, and the migration from one environment to another.
• Responsible for pro-active remediation of database operational problems.
• Manages logins and user accounts, including assigning database object permissions and privileges.
• Rotation for morning and weekend support/on-call

Additional Requirements

• Good to have working knowledge or Administration experience on other database technology i.e. MS SQL/ Oceanbase / PostgreSQL / MySQL
• Knowledge of Business Continuity Plan (BCP)
• Good to have experience with automation and scripting skills using Perl, Python
• People management and leadership roles are a plus.
