Hawksman Technology, in partnership with a leading global digital assets trading and infrastructure firm, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the development of a mission-critical matching engine platform in Hong Kong.

The role is leadership-focused, managing a team of ~20 engineers, guiding technical direction, and ensuring ultra-low latency, highly resilient trading infrastructure while collaborating with senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience leading software engineering teams in low-latency trading or high-performance distributed systems.
• Deep Java knowledge with ability to guide architecture and decisions.
• Experience with matching engine architectures and ultra-low latency platforms.
• Proven track record mentoring and developing technical talent.
• Strong stakeholder management across engineering leadership and business functions.
• Experience in buy-side, proprietary trading, exchanges or electronic trading; crypto OK.
• Excellent communication and leadership in fast-moving environments.
• Mandarin language skills are required.

Hawksman Technology is partnering with a leading global digital assets trading and infrastructure firm as they look to appoint an Engineering Manager to lead the development of their mission-critical matching engine platform.

Role: Engineering Manager (Matching Engine Platform) - JAVA Background

This is an opportunity to lead one of the most critical engineering functions within a high-performance trading environment. You'll be responsible for managing a team of approximately 20 engineers, driving the technical direction of the firm's low-latency matching engine, and partnering closely with senior engineering and business stakeholders to deliver highly resilient, scalable trading infrastructure.

This is a leadership-focused position rather than a hands-on coding role. Success will come from building and developing high-performing engineering teams, guiding architectural decisions, and ensuring the platform continues to meet the demanding performance and reliability standards required in modern electronic markets.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop a team of approximately 20 software engineers responsible for the firm's core matching engine platform.
• Drive technical strategy, system design, and architectural decisions across a mission-critical low-latency trading platform.
• Partner with senior engineering leadership and business stakeholders to align technical priorities with commercial objectives.
• Foster engineering excellence through strong delivery processes, mentoring, and technical leadership.
• Ensure the platform maintains exceptional levels of performance, scalability, resilience, and operational reliability.
• Balance long-term platform evolution with the demands of a fast-paced production trading environment.
• Support hiring, team growth, and ongoing development of engineering talent as the organisation continues to scale.
• Champion best practices across software engineering, system architecture, and platform operations.

Requirements:

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams within low-latency trading or high-performance distributed systems.
• Deep technical background in Java and modern distributed systems, with the ability to provide architectural guidance and make informed technical decisions.
• Strong understanding of matching engine architecture and the engineering principles required to build and maintain ultra-low latency platforms.
• Previous experience managing engineering teams of significant size, with a track record of mentoring and developing technical talent.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working across engineering leadership and business functions.
• Experience within buy-side firms, proprietary trading, market making, exchanges, or electronic trading environments. Crypto experience is beneficial but not essential.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, technically demanding environments.
• Mandarin language skills are required.
