Our client is a tier-1 leading global financial institution. They are on the lookout for an experienced Software Engineer (Java / Backend) to join their Operations & Regulatory Technology division. As their Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the team responsible for designing, building, and scaling the firm’s core operational processing engines and global regulatory reporting systems. You will bridge complex operational workflows with robust technical execution - ensuring backend systems handling high-volume transaction data across Risk, Finance, and Compliance are scalable, reliable, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Core Application Engineering: Design, build, and maintain high-throughput backend services and microservices using Java to support core operational functions and complex data processing pipelines.
- Regulatory Reporting Systems: Develop and optimize scalable reporting modules to satisfy global regulatory reporting mandates (e.g., MiFID II, Dodd-Frank, or regional equivalents).
- Database Management & Tuning: Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data access layers across enterprise database platforms (PostgreSQL, DB2, Sybase, or Oracle) to guarantee data accuracy for audit and compliance inspection.
- Integration & Event Streaming: Build and support RESTful web services and message-driven architectures (e.g., Apache Kafka, IBM MQ, JMS) for seamless data exchange between internal platforms and external regulatory hubs.
- Environment & Automation: Write Shell/Python scripts in Linux environments to automate batch processing, system deployments, monitoring, and routine data transfers.
- CI/CD & Delivery: Maintain rigorous software quality standards through automated testing (JUnit/Mockito) and modern CI/CD pipelines (Git, Jenkins, Bitbucket).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Operations, Risk, and Compliance partners to translate complex business and regulatory reporting requirements into technical system specifications.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5-8+ years of hands‑on software development experience with Java (Core Java, Spring / Spring Boot), ideally within a financial services or enterprise operations environment.
- Strong experience with enterprise relational databases (Sybase, PostgreSQL, DB2, or Oracle), with demonstrated skill in query optimization and performance tuning.
- Solid grasp of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), microservices architecture, concurrent programming, and system design principles.
- Practical experience navigating Unix/Linux environments and writing shell/Python automation scripts.
- Clear technical communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical operational and compliance stakeholders.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
- Messaging Systems: Experience with message brokers such as Apache Kafka, IBM MQ, or JMS.
- DevOps & Containers: Hands-on exposure to containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms.
- Domain Knowledge: Prior exposure to trade processing, trade lifecycle workflows, or financial regulatory reporting frameworks
