Joy Studios is an agile game innovation studio building a proprietary ecosystem of games and platform tools. We manage a suite of titles processing tens of millions in high-volume digital asset transactions. Based in Hong Kong with a multicultural remote team, we sit at the intersection of next-generation gaming, provably fair systems, social gaming, and operator tooling - building scalable, transparent, and engaging experiences for a global audience.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Sr. QA Automation Engineer to help us build quality into everything we ship, from our games and their underlying math to the back-office systems that keep our operations running. You will help shape how we test, set the standards others follow, and scale a QA practice that keeps pace with a fast-growing studio.

This is an automation-first role. Your primary focus is building and validating automated tests that give us fast, reliable feedback across games, game math, and back-office workflows. Hands-on manual and exploratory testing is a real part of the job too: some of the most valuable signals come from sitting with a game or an operator tool and probing how it actually behaves.

You will work closely with engineering, game math, and product colleagues to catch issues early and build confidence in every release. We embrace AI to accelerate test creation, coverage, and triage. You set the direction, critically evaluate the output, and own the judgment about what we can trust and ship.

Key Responsibilities

Test Automation & Frameworks

• Automated Test Suites: Build and maintain end-to-end and integration test suites for our games and back-office systems in TypeScript and Cypress, keeping them fast, reliable, and easy to extend.
• Game Math Validation: Integrate automated checks that validate game behaviour against the models and validation methodology owned by our game math team, covering areas such as RTP, paytables, and provably fair outcomes.
• Back-Office & API Automation: Automate testing of back-office and operator workflows and their underlying APIs and data, catching issues close to their source.

Manual & Exploratory Testing

• Game Testing: Test our games hands-on across mobile and desktop, covering game play, edge cases, and the feedback players see, to find the issues automation misses.
• Back-Office Testing: Validate back-office and operator systems through structured and exploratory testing of real operational workflows.
• Defect Management: Reproduce, document, and prioritise issues with clear, actionable reports, then verify fixes and guard against regressions.

QA Process, CI/CD & Enablement

• CI/CD Integration: Embed automated tests into our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) so quality checks run continuously and problems surface early.
• Process & Standards: Help build and scale our QA process, standards, and coverage as the studio grows, establishing practices the wider team can rely on.
• AI-Assisted Testing: Use AI to accelerate test creation, coverage, and triage, critically evaluating the results and taking ownership of what ships.
• Quality Partnership: Partner with engineering, game math, and product to build quality in from the start, and share testing knowledge across the team.

Skills and Qualifications

• QA & Automation Experience: A track record of designing and building test automation for web applications, with the judgment to know what is worth automating and what is better tested by hand.
• Testing Suites and CI/CD: Strong hands-on experience writing maintainable end-to-end and integration tests, and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• API & Data Testing: Comfort testing at the API and data layers, including REST/JSON APIs and validating data across databases.
• Manual & Exploratory Testing: A rigorous approach to manual and exploratory testing, with a talent for finding the edge cases that matter.
• Ownership: Ability to set direction with limited day-to-day guidance, establish standards, and bring others along as the QA practice grows.

Bonus Points

• Experience testing real-time, interactive, or gaming applications.
• Familiarity with HTML5 Canvas or WebGL game clients and engines such as PixiJS, Phaser, or Three.js.
• Exposure to validating game math, statistical models, or financial systems.
• Experience with performance and load testing.
