Qualifications

• 5+ years post-qualification experience as a solicitor or equivalent.
• Substantial in-house or major commercial firm experience.
• Strong commercial, corporate, and regulatory law knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal English; Mandarin is advantageous.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and advise senior stakeholders.
• Experience with contract drafting and negotiation.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Counsel to join our client - A leading Multi-National Healthcare Company - as in-house legal team on a contract basis. This role represents a significant opportunity to provide strategic legal guidance and support to business operations. As Senior Counsel, you will be instrumental in delivering comprehensive legal services across multiple practice areas, ensuring the organisation operates in compliance with applicable laws and regulations whilst managing legal risks effectively.

This position offers the flexibility of contract-based work, allowing you to contribute your expertise to a diverse and challenging portfolio of matters. There is also a high possibility for the role to convert to a permanent position for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Providing strategic, high-quality legal advice on a broad range of commercial, corporate and regulatory matters affecting the organisation
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, including contracts, service agreements and other legal instruments
• Managing legal risks and ensuring the organisation's compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and internal policies
• Advising senior management and operational teams on legal implications of business initiatives and strategic decisions
• Supporting corporate transactions, mergers, acquisitions and other significant business transactions
• Handling employment law matters and advising on human resources-related legal issues
• Conducting legal research and providing pragmatic, commercially-focused legal solutions
• Mentoring and supporting junior legal staff and external counsel where appropriate
• Managing relationships with external law firms and ensuring cost-effective use of external legal resources

What we're looking for

• At least 5 years' post-qualification experience as a qualified solicitor or equivalent legal professional, with substantial experience in an in-house legal environment or major commercial law firm
• Proven expertise in commercial law, corporate transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, and general business law
• Strong knowledge of Hong Kong employment law, corporate law and regulatory requirements
• Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic, commercially-focused legal advice to senior stakeholders and operational teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with fluency in Mandarin being advantageous
• Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
• Proven capability to work autonomously and exercise sound legal judgement in complex situations
• Familiarity with contract management systems and legal technology tools

Preferred Experience:

• Combination of private practice and in-house legal experience.
• Experience supporting businesses in Taiwan.
• Experience supporting distribution-based business models and commercial operations.
• Knowledge of healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, or nutrition industries.
