Job description

We are seeking a qualified Solicitor to support the General Counsel in handling legal, compliance and governance matters across the Group, including contract review, risk advice and legal projects.

Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted legal business partner to internal stakeholders, delivering timely, pragmatic and risk-calibrated advice that supports the Group's strategic and commercial objectives
• Provide strategic support on reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts and agreements to manage commercial and legal risk
• Support legal and regulatory compliance across the Group by advising on applicable requirements, monitoring key developments and helping business teams operate with confidence
• Prepare agendas and circulate relevant materials for meetings, helping ensure discussions are well structured, informed and action oriented
• Attend meetings, capture accurate notes and prepare clear summaries that support follow-up actions and decision‑making
• Contribute to the development and continuous enhancement of internal legal governance policies, supporting a strong and consistent governance framework across the Group
• Identify key legal and commercial risks faced by the Group and provide management with timely, practical advice on emerging risks, exposures and mitigation options
• Partner with business teams on live commercial projects from an early stage, helping anticipate legal issues and minimise the risk and impact of potential disputes
• Develop practical legal solutions from concept through implementation, working with stakeholders to turn legal advice into effective business outcomes
• Take part in other legal, compliance and business projects assigned by management

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer in Hong Kong or other common law jurisdiction with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience, a current practising certificate, and authority to certify original documents as a solicitor
• 8 - 10 years of experience with reputable law firms and/or international companies, with legal knowledge of the APAC region, including China. In‑house and shipping industry experience is preferred
• Fluent in spoken and written English, a good command of spoken and written Chinese and Mandarin is an advantage
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels in a multicultural work environment
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to understand the broader commercial and organisational context
• Mature, responsible and accountable, with a strong sense of ownership over assigned work
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to provide practical, business‑oriented legal advice
• Demonstrated ability to provide practical, commercially focused and solution‑oriented legal advice in a fast‑paced business environment, with the flexibility to adapt to changing commercial structures, priorities and operational requirements
• Efficient, well organised and able to prioritise workload, manage multiple tasks and work effectively under time pressure
