Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in numerical subjects such as Mathematics or Finance or Economics or related subjects.
  • 7+ years of proven working experience in retirement field, with strong knowledge on MPF market preferably from MPF provider (ORSO background will be added advantage).
  • Demonstrate ability in vendor management.
  • Strong communication, analytical and technical skills with large data handling capabilities.
  • Self-motivation, curiosity in financial services and proactive task planning.
  • Ability to present complex information clearly in English and Cantonese; Mandarin is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire and deepen knowledge of valuing liabilities for pension and long-term severance benefits under the HK pension regime.
  • Support or lead projects such as M&A due diligence and retirement benefit reviews; balance cost and coverage.
  • Lead small initiatives and manage client relationships; develop actuarial consulting skills.
  • Conduct research and analytics to form Mercer’s local views and provide client recommendations.
  • Assist in new business development and digest MPFA regulations affecting retirement matters.
  • Draft surveys and coordinate information for projects with senior review; mentor junior team members.

Job description

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Wealth team (under retirement pension), part of our people and investments business at Marsh. This role will be based in Hong Kong. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

We will count on you to:

  • Acquire and/or enhance your existing knowledge of valuing liabilities relating to pension and long-term severance benefits under the Hong Kong pension regime as well as long-term benefits in certain other Asian markets.
  • Support or lead other projects (depending on complexity), such as M&A due diligence and implementation projects, retirement benefit review and benchmarking projects, and other as-hoc retirement/long-term benefit related projects. Use technical and actuarual skills, as well as market knowledge, to support corporate sponsors in understanding options to manage their long-term benefit schemes, balancing the trade-off between cost and adequate coverage.
  • Have project management and client management responsibilities that is appropriate for this role as you develop actuarial consulting skills, helping clients resolve their pension needs, understand retirement benefit trends and shape the market. Lead small initiatives and projects where you will be empowered to make decisions.
  • Carry out different research and analytics, as part of forming Mercer’s local views on issues that our clients will be interested in. You will be able to apply your findings to arrive at recommendations or observations to add value to our clients, under guidance of more experienced colleagues.
  • Support new business initiatives and new business development activities.
  • Digest and keep up with MPFA regulations that impact on the financial planning industry in relation to investment and retirement matters.
  • Carry out initiatives under instruction but with minimal supervision, such as drafting and managing industry surveys, and collating the information for use in projects and marketing efforts with review by senior team members.
  • Provide guidance to and mentor junior members of the team.

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor Degree in numerical subjects such as Mathematics or Finance or Economics or related subjects.
  • 7+ years of proven working experience in retirement field, with strong knowledge on MPF market preferably from MPF provider (ORSO background will be added advantage).
  • Demonstrate ability in vendor management.
  • Can demonstrate strong communication, analytical and technical skills – comfortable with managing and manipulating large amounts of data in an efficient manner. Ability to articulate complex and technical information, within parameters of your role and level, in layman and concise ways.
  • Have strong self-initiative and curiosity in financial services, self-motivated to seek out knowledge, test ideas and ways to contribute to the team.
  • Need to have strong personal management in order to plan ahead for foreseeable tasks, and understand own capacity for unforeseeable tasks. Manage the schedule for routine jobs, and be able to provide estimates of the time required to complete your tasks for senior management reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal skills in English and Cantonese. Mandarin will be an added advantage.
