Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced professional in investigative research and due diligence to join our dynamic and fast-growing team in Hong Kong or Shanghai as a Research Manager. The successful candidate will manage a team of researchers and work closely with other senior members on investigative due diligence, corporate investigations, and business intelligence assignments. The role offers meaningful responsibility, exposure to sophisticated cross-border matters, and opportunities to contribute to project delivery and provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Candidates with less experience will be considered for the Senior Associate role.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide rigorous review and editorial oversight of research and written deliverables, ensuring analytical depth, factual accuracy, and consistency of quality
• Lead and develop junior team members through structured coaching, ongoing mentorship, and constructive feedback on their research, analysis, and writing
• Assume end-to-end ownership of project execution, including scoping, research planning, resource allocation, progress management, quality assurance, and timely delivery
• Develop and execute sophisticated research strategies using public records, commercial databases, media sources, and open-source intelligence
• Analyze, verify, and synthesize complex financial, legal, and regulatory information across multiple sources
• Draft and refine clear, objective, and analytically robust reports for client delivery
• Contribute to proposal drafting and client communications

Requirements

• Full professional fluency in written and spoken Chinese and English, with the ability to analyze, interpret and communicate complex matters accurately in both languages
• 4 – 6 years of experience in investigative research, due diligence, corporate investigations, business intelligence, consulting, journalism or a related field
• Demonstrated strength in investigative research, critical analysis, and professional report writing and editing; ability to review others’ work and provide thoughtful, constructive guidance that supports the development of junior team members; sound judgment in evaluating source credibility, resolving conflicting information, and identifying material findings
• Proven ability to take ownership of complex assignments, manage competing priorities, and deliver consistently high-quality work under tight deadlines
• Detail oriented and results-oriented, demonstrating the ability to utilize resources, think outside the box and solve problems
• Proactive and collaborative, demonstrating a strong sense of leadership, teamwork and people management skills
• High standards of professionalism, discretion and integrity

Preferred Qualifications

• A strong academic record from a leading university, preferably in a relevant discipline such as social sciences, journalism, law, international relations, finance, business, or translation
• Experience reviewing research reports and managing large-scale projects
• Experience leading or managing a team of researchers or associates
• Strong interest in current affairs, international business, financial regulation, corporate governance, and geopolitics
• Proficiency in additional Asian languages would be an advantage
