Job summary

Hospital Authority invites applications for a Patient Care Assistant II in the Histopathology Laboratory at Queen Mary Hospital. You will assist laboratory technologists, manage specimen reception, perform routine staining and labeling, and help with inventory and reagent preparation.

Fluency in Cantonese with English/Mandarin is preferred; entry requirements include F.5/S.5 and department training. Role involves manual handling, supervision-based duties, and potential end-of-contract gratuity.

Qualifications

• Completed F.5 / S.5 or equivalent.
• Completed structured departmental training.
• Possess working experience in laboratory.
• Good PC skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct/indirect technical assistance to technical staff and follow procedure guides under supervision.
• Assist in reception of biopsy specimens: check, label and record (may be infectious).
• Perform routine histopathology duties: staining, mounting and labeling slides.
• Operate simple equipment under supervision (stainer, coverslipper, fume hood).
• File and retrieve patient materials and manage shelving systems.
• Prepare simple reagents and handle chemicals under supervision.
• Cleansing and disinfecting equipment; dispose infectious containers and reagents.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and benches in clean, tidy condition.
• Assist in inventory reception and computer entry of items.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by senior staff.
