Job summary

James Lau & Associates Limited is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineering graduate to assist in structural calculations and designs for diverse development projects in Hong Kong. You will prepare drawings and BIM models under the guidance of senior engineers, and help compile government submission packages.

Responsibilities include site visits, quality audits, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with design drawings and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from a recognized university (HK or overseas).
• HKIE eligibility must be satisfied for Graduate Membership in Structural Discipline.
• Knowledge of local HK design codes (e.g., Concrete, Dead/Imposed Loads, Steel).
• Familiarity with structural analysis software (ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000) and CAD; BIM (Revit) exposure is a plus.

Job description

Assist in performing structural engineering calculations and designs for various development projects (residential, commercial, institutional, or infrastructure) using standard engineering software and relevant codes.

Prepare, review, and mark up structural sketches, detailed engineering drawings, and Building Information Modeling (BIM/Revit) models under the guidance of senior engineers.

Assist in preparing statutory submission packages (general building plan, structural plan, foundation plan, superstructure/substructure calculations, and site supervision plans) for the Buildings Department (BD), Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO), and other relevant Hong Kong government authorities.

Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress, audit workmanship quality, and ensure compliance with approved structural drawings and safety standards.

Collaborate with internal multidisciplinary teams (geotechnical, MEP, civil) and external parties, including architects, clients, contractors, and statutory bodies.

Job requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized Hong Kong or overseas university.

HKIE Eligibility: Qualifications must satisfy the academic requirements for Graduate Membership of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in the Structural Discipline.

• Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of structural design principles and local Hong Kong design codes (e.g., Code of Practice for Structural Use of Concrete, Code of Practice for Dead and Imposed Loads, Steel Code).
• Familiarity with structural analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000) and CAD software (AutoCAD). Exposure to BIM (Revit) is a distinct advantage.

Language Skills: Proficiency in spoken and written English and Chinese for effective communication and report writing.

Attributes: Strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, proactive learning attitude, and a strong sense of responsibility. Able to work well both independently and in a team environment.
