Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive English Teaching Assistant to support students in their English language development across reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and phonetics. The successful candidate will work closely with English teachers to provide individualised and small-group interventions during lunch breaks, after-school sessions, and pull-out lessons. This position is ideal for someone passionate about literacy, student progress, and confidence-building through language learning.

Key Responsibilities:

Targeted Student Support:

Provide one-on-one and small group support to students requiring additional help in English.

Focus on improving students’ phonetics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing structure, speaking fluency, and listening skills.

Design and implement individualised learning strategies in collaboration with the teaching team.

Support students during lunch recess and after-school sessions (Monday to Friday).

Conduct pull-out sessions from regular classes, coordinating with English and subject teachers.

Classroom & Teacher Collaboration:

Work closely with English teachers to identify students in need of support and devise tailored intervention plans.

Assist with lesson preparation, including creation of worksheets, learning materials, and activities.

Reinforce classroom learning through targeted exercises and practice sessions.

Track student progress and communicate observations to teachers for instructional adjustments.

Administrative & Resource Development:

Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and learning goals.

Contribute to organising literacy programs, reading clubs, and writing workshops.

Help manage English department resources, including classroom materials and digital tools.

Encourage student participation in storytelling, debate, drama, and other English-based activities.

Support students in exam preparation, academic writing, and homework completion.

Requirements:

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree (preferably in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field)

Excellent spoken and written English communication skills

Strong interest in student support, language development, and literacy

Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners

Strong organisational skills and flexibility in working outside regular class hours

Preferred Experience:

Prior experience as a teaching assistant, tutor, or language support specialist

Familiarity with phonics, early literacy strategies, and language acquisition techniques

Experience in international school settings or with ESL/EAL students

Knowledge of Cambridge IGCSE, AS/A Level, or IBDP English curricula
