Job summary

KOS International Limited is seeking a Database Infrastructure Engineer in Hong Kong to support mission-critical systems and upcoming transformation projects. The role focuses on administering Oracle and SQL databases, ensuring high availability, performance, security and reliability across on-premise and cloud environments.

You will perform upgrades, patches, migrations, backup and DR, monitor performance, tune SQL, collaborate with IT teams, handle incidents, and contribute to capacity

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on Oracle database administration experience.
• Strong experience in VMware, Linux and Windows Server.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure) and DBaaS is a plus.
• Experience with PL/SQL development and performance-tuned SQL is preferred.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes is a plus.
• Good communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese).
• Proactive, detail-minded and able to work independently and in a cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Administer, configure and maintain Oracle and SQL databases to ensure high availability and reliability.
• Perform installations, upgrades, patches and migrations across environments.
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks and tune SQL, indexing and resource usage.
• Design and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure and vendor teams for new system implementations.
• Handle incidents and problems relating to databases, including root-cause analysis.
• Enforce database security standards, access controls, and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs and config records.
• Support capacity planning, sizing and modernization roadmaps including cloud adoption.
• Provide off-hours / on-call support for critical production issues.

Our client is a well-known organisation in Hong Kong. The team is expanding their enterprise IT capabilities and is now looking for an Database Infrastructure Engineer to support mission- critical systems and upcoming transformation projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, configure and maintain Oracle and SQL databases (on-premise and/or cloud) to ensure high availability, performance, security and reliability.
• Perform database installation, upgrades, patching and migration across development, UAT and production environments.
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks and perform tuning (SQL, indexing, resource management) to meet SLAs.
• Design, implement and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies (e.g. RMAN, Data Guard) to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure and vendor teams to support new system implementations and data integration.
• Handle incidents and problems related to databases, including root cause analysis and preventive actions.
• Implement and enforce database security standards, access controls, encryption and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs and configuration records.
• Support capacity planning, database sizing and modernisation roadmap (consolidation, upgrades, cloud adoption).
• Provide off-hours / on-call support for critical production issues when require.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Oracle database administration in medium to large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong experience in VMware, Linux/Window server.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure) and database-as-a-service will be an advantage.
• Experience with PL/SQL development, stored procedures and performance-critical SQL is preferred.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, problem, change management) is a plus.
• Good communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese).
• Proactive, detail-mind and able to work independently as well as in a cross-functional team.
