Job summary

China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited is seeking a CTA(BS) to support building services drafting, design calculations and coordination across disciplines for major HK projects. The role involves preparing and updating drawings, checking submissions, and liaising with the Housing Department and contractors to resolve technical issues.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Higher Certificate in Building Services, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from the HK Polytechnic/Polytechnic University or recognised institute; CM approval for acceptability.
• Good skill and experience in AutoCAD drafting and preparation of building services drawings.
• Ability to carry out design calculations and show knowledge of applicable Regulations and Codes of Practice for building services.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and update drawings for site variations.
• Undertake minor design work and prepare sketches/drawings under direction.
• Check shop drawings and as-fitted drawings submitted by contractors and suppliers.
• Coordinate architectural, building services, structural and utility drawings.
• Liaise with Housing Department staff, professional teams and contractor representatives on design and construction matters.
• Assist with research of building services materials, costs and sources of supply.
• Update record drawings and prepare management and programme charts.
• Direct and supervise junior CTA(BS) staff and ensure drawings comply with instructions.
• Resolve simple technical problems and refer complex issues to the CM for direction.

Job description

China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited (“the Company” or “China State Hong Kong”) started its construction business in Hong Kong in 1979. The Company engages in building construction and civil engineering works. China State Hong Kong is among the largest construction contractors in Hong Kong, and is approved by the Works Bureau, to be on the List of Approved Contractors (Group C) for Public Works in the five major categories of building and civil engineering works, namely, “Buildings”, “Port Works”, “Roads and Drainage”, “Site Formation” and “Waterworks”.

Qualification and Experience:

The CTA(BS) shall possess at least a Diploma or Higher Certificate in either Building Services, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic / Polytechnic University or an institute of vocational education which acceptability is subject to CM's confirmation, or equivalent as accepted by the CM, and with good skill and experience in AutoCAD drafting, preparation of building services drawings, carrying out design calculations together with good knowledge of statutory Regulations and Code of Practices relating to building services trades;

• Duties and Responsibilities - The CTA(BS) is responsible to the CM or other personnel as appointed by the CM for the following duties:
• To prepare and update drawings for site variations;
• To undertake minor design work and to prepare sketches / drawings under the direction of the CM;
• To check shop drawings and as-fitted drawings submitted by contractors, suppliers and Utility Undertaking;
• To coordinate architectural, building services, structural and utility drawings;
• To liaise with professionals, technical officers and site staff of the Housing Department and contractor's representatives where appropriate, on matters related to the design and construction of the project;
• To assist with the research of building services materials for use in the Contract and where applicable, their costs and sources of supply;
• To update record drawings and prepare management and programme charts;
• To be responsible for the issue and receipt of drawings and to maintain a proper record of such;
• To arrange printing and transfer of drawings;
• To direct, supervise and control other junior CTA(BS)s, if any, under his charge and to responsible for the checking of drawings prepared by them to ensure compliance with instructions;
• To handle technical problems arising from site difficulties and / or discrepancies in drawings and to refer such matters to the CM or his representatives for direction;
• To resolve simple technical matters which do not require professional expertise;
• To perform other duties as directed by the CM.
• Problem Solving and Decision Making - The CTA(BS) must be able to handle technical problems arising from site difficulties and / or discrepancies in drawing and to refer such matters to the CM for direction. The CTA(BS) must be able to make decisions on resolving simple technical matters which do not require professional expertise;
• Coordination and Contact - The CTA(BS) must be able to handle frequent contact with professional / technical / site staff of his team, staff of allied professions in the Housing Department, consultants and contractors;
• The CTA(BS) shall be for exclusive and sole use of the CM and his representatives for any project at the discretion of the CM.
