Job summary

The Junior Associate will join the Global Markets Corporate Banking – Financial Institutions team in Hong Kong, supporting origination and structuring of corporate transactions for Banks across regions.

You will conduct credit risk analysis, prepare memoranda, monitor client portfolios, and collaborate with Account Managers and product teams to structure facilities and manage risk.

Qualifications

  • Typically, between 3 - 5 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Undergraduate degree has academic coursework in finance, economics, or accounting with an outstanding academic achievement.
  • Has financial analysis training and experience.
  • Has up to 3 years of relevant experience within investment and/or corporate banking unit.
  • Excellent analytical skills. Highly skilled in building complex financial models.
  • Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools.
  • Skilled in creating statistical presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze financial and operating information relating to current and prospective counterparties and industries.
  • Prepare concise, accurate and well-reasoned written credit applications and memoranda for both new and existing transactions for presentation to Credit.
  • Maintain current financial information on clients in order to perform timely annual reviews, financial covenants, and internal trigger monitoring.
  • Perform financial statement and credit risk analyses of counterparties and transactions using all available sources of information including, but not limited to financial statements, legal documentation, credit ratings, etc.
  • Assess financial soundness of counterparties including appropriate debt levels, debt service and repayment capabilities.
  • Analyze transactions for structural strengths and weaknesses and structure appropriately to mitigate weaknesses.
  • Review credit documentation for conformity with approved Credit terms and conditions.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and regulatory developments.
  • Assist Account Managers in managing the portfolio of accounts.
  • Provide analytical findings to Account Management team including input on credit risks and related mitigants.
  • Support Account Managers with portfolio management needs for relevant business partners/stakeholders.
  • Participate in decision making with clients and internal product group partners.
  • Develop expert knowledge of Bank policies to ensure portfolio adheres to BMO’s policies and procedures.
  • Review and participate in negotiation of legal documentation.
  • Assist with the retrieval of reports from the Bank’s reporting database and the Rating Agencies
  • Monitor exposures across different BMO clients and products.
  • Assist in AML/KYC processing and obtain any pending required documentation.
  • Prepare Single Credit Counterparty (SCCL) Limit attestations

Job description

The Junior Associate will be part of the Global Markets Corporate Banking – Financial Institutions team. This team manages the portfolio of Banks across the Americas, Asia and Europe, Middle East and Africa. The clients include but not limited to Fund Managers, Insurance Firms and Brokers Commercial Banks, Central Banks and other Supranationals, Sovereigns and Agencies.

The Junior Associate will support the origination and structuring of corporate transactions, and coordinates with other products as an integral part of a larger coverage team that maintains strong client relationships. Includes providing lending expertise for the Financial Institutions Sector, establishing credit facilities to support trading products business, and facilitating credit approvals in support of various products. The Junior Associate will have account management responsibility and will be expected to perform ongoing monitoring of client portfolios and client financial performance.

Credit Risk and Financial Analysis

  • Support Account Managers with portfolio management needs for relevant business partners/stakeholders.
  • Participate in decision making with clients and internal product group partners.

  • Liaise with Global Markets stakeholders and with various lines of business and operational areas of the Bank, as required.
  • Support Global Markets on portfolio management needs and growth initiatives, as required.
  • Assist in updating Financing Guidelines.
  • Participate in various projects as required.

Works mostly independently. Additional work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
