Job summary

Kong Mou Sum Library in Hong Kong seeks an Assistant Librarian to manage daily operations and lead staff in delivering services to the College community.

The role covers collection development, metadata services, research support, and open access management, with evening and weekend duties and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
• Hands-on experience with Alma modules is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of IRIMS (Pure) and Open Access management recommended.
• Experience in managing course reading and book donations is advantageous.
• Academic library experience preferred.
• Good communication and ability to work in a team or independently.
• Proficiency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua).

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily library operations and lead staff to deliver services to the College community.
• Assist the Librarian in developing new library services and policies.
• Coordinate collection development for print and electronic resources with stakeholders.
• Coordinate bibliographic metadata services including cataloging coordination and bulk records import.
• Oversee Research Support and Scholarly Communication, including repository administration and data scraping from citation indexes.
• Attend evening and weekend counter duties for circulation, information, and reference services.
• Provide administrative and logistical support to College-wide activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Assistant Librarian

Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operation of the Library, and lead a team of library staff to delivery related services to the College community;
• Assist the Librarian in deriving new library services and stipulating policies related to the Library according to the dynamic needs of the College community;
• Coordinating the Collection Development by overseeing the entire cycles of acquisition, including both print and electronic resources, of the Library and liaising with internal and external stakeholders;
• Coordinate the Bibliographic Metadata Service of the Library, including cataloguing coordination, bibliographic control, bulk records import, etc.;
• Overseeing the daily operation of Research Support and Scholarly Communication Services of the Library, including administering the institutional repository, validating research output records, working with IT colleagues to perform data scraping from citation index databases, monitoring open access management, etc.;
• Attend counter duties during evening and weekend shifts for providing circulation services, information services, reference services, etc.;
• Provide administrative and logistical support to the College-wide activities; and
• Any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in library and information science or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification working experience;
• Hands-on experience in using various modules of Alma would be highly advantageous;
• Strong knowledge of using IRIMS (such as Pure) and Open Access management would be recommended;
• Substantial working experience in managing course reading and book donation is advantageous;
• Working experience in academic libraries is highly preferred;
• Good communication skills and ability to work as a team as well as independently;
• Good command of English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua).
