Job description
Overview

Health Visitor, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse – 0-19 service for the London Borough of Harrow. The service offers Health Visiting and School Nursing to the children and families of this population in North West London. This vacancy is for motivated Band 6 Health Visitors to contribute to building an integrated 0-19 Service and support the Healthy Child Programme in Harrow.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and assess child and family health needs and deliver a universal core service, targeted interventions and public health interventions to children and their families within a defined locality.
  • Work closely with local partners, particularly GPs, Children's Centres and the local community and voluntary sector.
  • Work as part of a skill-mixed team and supervise community nursery nurses, community staff nurses, health care assistants and students to ensure they are working to required standards.
  • Contribute to the Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home-visiting (MECSH) programme, a nurse-led, structured intervention for families needing extra support.
  • Integrate MECSH within the universal health visiting service, predominantly for families needing ongoing support, and also serving some families requiring a more comprehensive service.
  • Be an effective role model within the team and support colleagues to improve safety and quality of care.
  • Safeguard children and adults by recognising risks, escalating concerns when necessary, and acting as an advocate for service users.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, comprehensive records and ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements.
  • Reflect on practice, identify quality/safety improvements, and work with others to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
About the Team and Service

The Harrow health visiting team offers three 0-19 Healthy Child Programmes with approximately 75 staff, including Team Leaders, Community Practice Teachers, School Nurses, Public Health Nurses, Community Nursery Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Administrative staff. The MECSH programme is a high-quality, evidence-based, nurse-led intervention for families needing extra support.
