Job summary

ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is seeking a dedicated Zookeeper for the Deer and Antelope section. The role involves caring for species such as Indochinese Sika Deer, Scimitar Horned Oryx, Grevy's Zebra, Bactrian Camel and Visayan Warty Pigs.

You will support daily care, enrichment, and conservation efforts in a 37.5-hour week with a weekend/Bank Holiday rota. Applicants should have an apprenticeship/DMZAA or equivalent, zoo experience, and a valid UK driving license.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship or DMZAA or equivalent required.
• Practical experience with zoo/aquarium animals preferred, exotic species a plus.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather; hands-on role.
• Demonstrates initiative and a proactive, sustainable approach to tasks.
• Ability to work well in a team and independently.
• Punctual, reliable, professional behavior.
• Full, valid UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Food preparation: prepare approved diets and feeding procedures.
• Hygiene and cleaning: maintain hygiene across exhibits and equipment.
• Husbandry and enrichment: develop high standards of care and enrich enclosures.
• Animal observation: monitor behaviour, health and security; report concerns.
