We are exclusively working with an outstanding college based in Birmingham, seeking Youth Workers to support students within their specialist provision. These students have been excluded from mainstream education, and the college adopts a holistic and restorative approach.

About the role:

This Youth Worker position is ideal for those with experience supporting vulnerable children who have experienced severe trauma. If you have previous experience working with vulnerable children and adults, or in similar roles, your skills could translate well here. An understanding of humanities, cultural, political issues, and values impacting students with social, emotional, and mental health concerns would be highly valuable.

Working within a mental health setting requires empathy, sincerity, and emotional maturity. You will encounter safeguarding concerns regularly, and understanding the backgrounds of the boys you work with is essential.

This is a challenging role, and experience in similar settings is of great interest. You may need to respond appropriately to safeguarding issues as they arise.

Main responsibilities:

  • Raising attainment of students with SEMH, EBD, Autism, and related needs
  • Collaborating with specialist SEN Teachers, Behaviour Specialists, and Educational Psychologists
  • Adopting a holistic approach with classes of 10, including 1:1 and small seminar sessions
  • Full-time position (Monday to Friday)
  • Utilizing outstanding facilities within the college
  • Focusing on GCSE Maths and English to improve practical attainment — candidates must have GCSEs in these subjects
