Job description

Redthread is a hospital-based youth work service, working alongside NHS staff and other professionals in emergency departments.

Our experienced, specialist youth workers engage with and support young people, aiming to reduce serious youth violence. We often meet young people at a moment of change and work with them to find a positive way forward.

We provide long-term, holistic support, considering every aspect of a young person’s life and building support around them.

The Youth Violence Intervention Practitioner role is to be part of the youth work team within Redthread, focusing on youth violence interventions in a healthcare setting. You will support young people aged 11-25 who present to hospital following violence incidents or where there are concerns about exploitation or extra-familial harm. You will work with the young person both in the hospital and post-discharge to ensure they receive the support they need and want.

Main responsibilities include:

1. Managing a caseload of young people and supporting their personal, emotional, educational, health, and social development through various interactions.
2. Working within a multidisciplinary team to safeguard young people.
3. Keeping young people's details and case records up to date on our case management system.
4. Supporting the delivery of training to clinicians.

Qualifications and key skills required:

• Significant professional experience working with vulnerable young people in various settings.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work autonomously.
• Thorough knowledge of the physical, social, and emotional developmental needs of young people.
• Understanding of issues faced by young people in inner-city areas.
• Awareness of child protection and safeguarding practices, with knowledge of current youth work standards.
• Experience with case recording best practices.
