Job Description:

Your typical day as a Youth Support Worker (18-25 year olds) will be busy and involve balancing hands-on support for residents, administrative tasks, and collaborating with external services.

The support you provide includes regular welfare checks on residents, considering their support plans and safety assessments, which require ongoing updates.

You will check residents' accommodation for repairs or safety issues and address safeguarding concerns to protect residents from harm, abuse, or neglect.

You will assist residents with benefit applications and coordinate group or one-to-one activities.

Your goal is to guide residents towards securing a place on the housing register or finding suitable rental properties.

You will manage a group of young residents with complex needs, providing practical and emotional support to help them regain independence.

Building consistent, trusting relationships is crucial to ensure residents feel secure and supported.

This role requires empathy, excellent listening skills, a non-judgmental attitude, and the ability to recognize and respond to potential issues. You must work autonomously, navigate, and defuse difficult situations to prevent escalation.

What we’re looking for:
  • Experience working with teenagers aged 18-25 years
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour
  • Knowledge or experience of safeguarding and trauma-informed principles

At Peabody, we have several opportunities for a Youth Support Worker (18-25 year olds), Lewisham on a permanent basis at our new schemes in Lewisham.

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check and subscription to the update service.

You must be able to work shifts between 8AM and 10PM (7.5 hours per day), 37.5 hours per week, including some weekends and bank holidays.

Please note: If appointed, your job title will be Housing Support Worker.
