Job summary

Lexia Education Services Ltd seeks a dedicated Youth Support Mentor to work with young people in Weston-super-Mare, focusing on SEMH and SEN needs through mentoring and local community engagement. The role offers training, mentorship, and progression into contracted school roles, with emphasis on consistency and empathetic support.

You’ll join a Somerset-based, community-led team and help students grow through creativity, sport and personalised guidance, while staying values-led and inclusive.

Qualifications

• You may have experience in youth work, coaching, mental health, social care, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Mentor 1:1 or in small groups, supporting SEMH and SEN students.

As a Youth Support Mentor in Weston-super-Mare, you’ll work directly with young people facing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) and Special Educational Needs (SEN), by delivering unique blend of intervention, through both sport and academic support, you can help re-engage students with their education and learning. Whether you’ve worked in youth support before or are simply someone with empathy and drive, ready to venture into something new and rewarding – you’ll be welcomed, trained, and empowered to grow in a role that truly changes lives.

What You’ll Be Doing as a Youth Support Mentor

You’ll be working in a school and community setting in Weston-super-Mare,, providing individualised mentoring to students who need consistent, trusted role models. This is about showing up and being someone young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) and Special Educational Needs (SEN), can relate to.

• Mentor 1:1 or in Small GroupsSupport young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) and SEN (Special Educational Needs) through their daily journeys, meeting their personal and emotional needs.
• Encourage Expression Through CreativityUse art, music, sport, or your own specific skills to help students engage with their school work and connect to their peers.
• Support Emotional RegulationHelp young people develop their coping skills, offer calm guidance, and help students build resilience.
• Promote Positive BehaviourUse trauma-informed approaches and Team Teach techniques to reinforce boundaries in a compassionate way.
• Collaborate with Educators & FamiliesWork closely with SENCOs, teachers, and pastoral teams to provide tailored support for students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) and SEN (Special Educational Needs).
