A leading youth service provider in the UK is seeking individuals to work in crisis accommodation for young people aged 16-24. About the Opportunity

Melbourne City Mission are the largest provider of youth crisis accommodation in Victoria. There are four Youth Refuges within Melbourne City Mission – Stopover; WRAP – Western Region Accommodation Program; Iramoo and Vicky’s Place. All these four supported crisis accommodation services are for young people aged 16 to 24.

About you

  • We are seeking applicants who are motivated and enthusiastic about working with young people and their children.
  • Have a qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, or a related community services field.
  • Strong ability to actively and assertively engage young people with complex needs, particularly in a residential environment.
  • An understanding of the homelessness service system with knowledge of patterns, trends and systemic issues, and principles in working with at risk young people.
  • Experience in working with homeless young people through a trauma informed lens.
  • Ability to work shift work including sleepover shifts.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team case managed environment.

  • Provide assistance to young people and their children to access appropriate accommodation options particularly youth housing, family reconciliation, private rental and public housing.
  • A clear understanding of working within a case management framework including client assessment and intake processes.

Screening Criteria

Applicants will be required to undergo a pre-employment safety screening process as part of the MCM selection process. Appointments to MCM roles will be subject to the following safety screening checks:

  • National (and International if applicable) Police Check (which includes Proof of Identity Check)
  • Victorian Employee Working with Children Check
  • Employment History Check
  • Right to Work in Australia and current and valid driver licence
