Job description

The Youth Justice Team Manager sits within the Youth & Family Resilience Service (YFRS), which includes Functional Family Therapy and the Edge of Care team.

YFRS responds to significant risk factors in the lives of children and young people, from early indicators such as poor attendance and disruptive behaviour at school to offending behaviours and serious violence. The YFRS team offers interventions for children and young people at the edge of care, those at risk of involvement with gangs and serious youth violence, and those involved in the criminal justice system. The service provides an evidence-led, urgent, and rapid response, including out-of-hours provision to address emerging concerns.

Youth Justice Team Manager

The post will lead and provide operational management of Waltham Forest's framework for all statutory court outcomes.

The role aims to:

  1. Lead operations for the YFRS in partnership with other managers and statutory partners, for Out of Court and statutory Court disposals (including Referral Orders, Youth Rehabilitation Orders, and Custody).
  2. Lead on continuous development, improvement, and performance management for all Out of Court and statutory Court disposals.
  3. Ensure that operational management of services results in a strengthened response to children and young people's needs and increases family resilience and well-being.
  4. Work closely with peer YFRS operational managers to embed systemic, trauma-informed, and child-first practice in partner services, including police, education, social care, and others.
  5. Adopt a holistic approach to the needs of vulnerable children to ensure high-quality provision across YFRS and partner services.
  6. Manage, develop, organize, and control this professional service area, ensuring compliance with all council, professional, and legislative requirements.
  7. Prepare for HMIP inspection readiness.
