Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting an Aspiring Youth Justice Officer to work as a Learning Support Assistant in a Barnet secondary school. This frontline role supports students at risk of exclusion and disengagement, using mentoring and trauma-informed approaches.

Suitable graduates from Youth and Communities, Criminology, Sociology or Social Science will gain exposure to safeguarding, multi-agency work, and restorative practices, with start dates in September 2026 and term-time hours.

Qualifications

• 1:1 and small-group mentoring for vulnerable or at-risk pupils.
• Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement.
• Building trusting relationships with disengaged or challenging learners.
• Implementing trauma-informed, restorative approaches.
• Gaining exposure to safeguarding, behaviour management, and multi-agency working.

Responsibilities

• Frontline experience with at-risk youth and early intervention.
• Understanding the link between education, behaviour, and offending.
• Skills in restorative practice, de-escalation, and relationship-building.
• Insight into multi-agency safeguarding and pastoral care.
