Join to apply for the Youth Justice Officer, ROYAL BOROUGH OF KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA role at Guardian Jobs
Support young people to make positive changes - and help shape safer communities.
At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we believe every young person deserves the chance to turn things around. As a Youth Justice Officer, you'll be at the heart of that - working directly with children, young people and their families to help reduce offending, improve outcomes and keep our communities safe.
Working Style:
You'll be based in the Borough playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.
What you'll be doing:
You'll manage a caseload of young people aged 10 to 17 who are involved with the youth justice system - whether that's through court orders or out-of-court interventions. You'll get to know each young person and their circumstances, working with them and their families to build realistic plans for change.
Day to day, you'll complete assessments, prepare court reports and supervise interventions - including statutory court orders and custodial sentences. You'll use a mix of evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches, always keeping the young person's needs in mind while balancing public safety and accountability.
This role is varied and hands-on. You'll work flexibly across different settings - including homes, schools, police custody suites, court and community venues - and liaise with a wide range of partners like social care, health, education and the police. You'll also keep accurate digital records, contribute to team discussions and stay up to date with changes in policy and good practice.

What You'll Bring
You'll be a qualified Social Worker, Probation Officer or hold another relevant professional qualification, with experience managing a caseload of children in the youth justice system. You'll be confident completing assessments and reports, and familiar with youth court processes and statutory interventions.
You'll understand the importance of working collaboratively - both with families and with professionals from across different services. You'll bring a calm, thoughtful approach, be able to build trust with young people and respond to challenging situations with clarity and care.
We're looking for someone who understands the wider context too, including structural inequalities, disproportionality and the barriers that many young people face. You'll be familiar with safeguarding frameworks, information sharing protocols and data protection and comfortable working within them.
Why join us
You'll be part of a skilled, welcoming team that's committed to helping young people make lasting change. We're a well-resourced, multi-disciplinary service, so you'll have access to training and development that supports your professional growth, including systemic and trauma-informed practice.
In this role, you'll work with colleagues who support each other and care about getting it right. You'll have space to reflect, share learning and contribute to new ideas - all while knowing that your work is making a real difference to people's lives.
