Job Opportunity: Youth Justice Officer (G8) – Southampton City Council
Location: Southampton
Contract Duration:3 Months
Pay Rate: PAYE £18.72 LTD£23.70
Working Hours: Full-time, regular hours

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Southampton City Council is seeking a Youth Justice Officer to join their dynamic team and support efforts in preventing offending and re-offending among young people in the local area.

About the Role: As a Youth Justice Officer, you will play a key role in assessing, planning, and delivering interventions with young people and their families who are involved in or at risk of entering the criminal justice system. This role is essential in supporting the council's statutory responsibilities and youth justice priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake assessments and manage casework for young people subject to statutory court orders or out-of-court disposals.

  • Develop and implement intervention plans tailored to individual needs and risk levels.

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external professionals, including social workers, police, schools, and voluntary organisations.

  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for court, panels, and internal meetings.

  • Engage young people and families in meaningful intervention to promote positive outcomes.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with young people within youth offending, social care, probation, or similar settings.

  • Strong understanding of youth justice legislation and safeguarding principles.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-agency team and under supervision.

  • A relevant qualification in youth work, social work, criminology, or related field is desirable.

Additional Information:
  • You will work alongside a team of council employees and be directly supervised by a manager.

  • Equipment for the role will be provided by the council.

  • The role is not open to substitution and requires the appointed candidate to complete the assignment in full.
