An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Youth Justice Education Worker to work with Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) Youth Justice Service (YJS).

About the Role:

The YJS is a multi-agency team working to prevent offending and re-offending by children. The Service includes staff from a range of backgrounds including Police, Health, Social Care, Education and Probation. The functions of the YJS include working with children to prevent offending, supervising children on a voluntary and conditional basis, subject to Court Orders and Out of Court Resolutions, both in the community and occasionally in custody and involves interventions with parents and families. The YJS works to give victims a voice, enables children to re-pay the harm they have caused to the community and strengthens parenting skills.

We understand the wider causes of offending behaviour, support children and families to make positive changes and create trusting relationships. Trauma informed practice and Systemic ideas are at the heart of how we work with children and young people; understanding how adverse childhood experiences have impacted on behaviour and development and ensuring our interventions are tailored to meet children’s developmental needs. We work in a restorative way and strive to achieve the best possible outcomes with our service users.

The YJS prioritises reducing the number of children in custody, believing that children are best supported to make changes in their lives whilst in the community, in all but the most extenuating circumstances. The Service also prioritises working with the whole family to ensure that the child’s risk and safety and wellbeing are managed effectively.

The YJS in B&NES is striving to become an excellent service for children, parents and carers, and victims and is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic professional to join our team. We are looking for an individual who is a strong team player and someone who can lead the support in our service that children receive around education, training and employment. The role will take responsibility for the cohort of children open to our Youth Justice Service and who need support to help them access education, training and employment opportunities to help them achieve their potential.

In a recent HMIP Inspection report, in which our service received a rating of ‘Good’, it was recognised that the YJS Education Worker role is key in advocating for children to ensure their education, training and employment needs are met.

About You:

To apply for the role, you will need the following qualification and experience:

• Degree in a related field or equivalent experience and experience of working in a school/education setting

Experience providing specialist advice and consultation to colleagues around education, training and employment and a collaborative approach with other agencies are essential.
