Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based midwifery care across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods for young pregnant people and families.
  • Promote health, wellbeing and social welfare through education and health promotion.
  • Collaborate with specialist midwives, multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies to improve outcomes for young families and reduce health inequalities.
  • Safeguard children and young people, identifying concerns and initiating appropriate actions.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for student and newly qualified midwives within a supportive learning environment.

Job description

The Young Parent Midwife will contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality maternity services in line with professional standards, local priorities, and national government policy, with a particular focus on supporting young parents and reducing teenage pregnancy-related health inequalities.

The post holder will provide safe, effective, and evidence-based midwifery care to young pregnant people and their families throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.

A key aspect of the role is promoting the health, wellbeing, and social welfare of young parents through education, health promotion, and the provision of advice and support. The post holder will work collaboratively with specialist midwives, multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies to improve outcomes for young families and contribute to reducing health inequalities within the local population.

The Young Parent Midwife will play an active role in safeguarding children and young people, exercising professional judgement to identify concerns, promote welfare, and initiate appropriate actions to minimise the risk of harm.

The post holder will also contribute to the creation of a positive learning environment, acting as a role model, mentor, and source of support for student midwives, newly qualified midwives, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will provide high quality, safe, and effective antenatal, intra-partum and post-natal services for young pregnant people and their families in a variety of settings.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month. As this vacancy is within the division of Women's and Children's, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.
