Job summary

Birds of Paradise Theatre Company (BOP) in Glasgow invites applications for maternity cover as Young Artists Development Officer. You will support 12 disabled young creatives (18–25) to develop their production for April 2027, providing dramaturgy, directing, design or creative producing support with weekly sessions from January to March 2027.

You’ll receive a full handover from the current post holder before taking on the group independently, with ongoing support from BOP’s core team

Qualifications

• Essential: 3+ years leading collaborative theatre-making in participatory contexts.
• Essential: demonstrable experience with disabled or neurodivergent young people or young adults.
• Essential: demonstrable experience adapting creative processes to support access requirements.
• Essential: substantial project management experience.
• Essential: experience safeguarding protected adults.

Responsibilities

• Provide dramaturgy, directing, design or creative producing support to the Young Artists group during weekly sessions Jan–Mar 2027 and during production week in April.
• Take over responsibilities from the current post holder with a full handover and ongoing support from the core team.

Salary: £15,040 per annum (pro rata of £37,600 FTE)
Hours: 2 days per week, including some evening work
Contract: Fixed term, 6 months (November 2026 – April 2027), with possible extension

We’re seeking maternity cover for our Young Artists Development Officer, supporting an existing group of 12 disabled young creatives (18–25) to develop their production for April 2027. The Young Artists retain full creative control of the work; this role provides the dramaturgy, directing, design, or creative producing support they need to realise it, through weekly sessions from January to March 2027 and into production week in April.

Essential:

• 3+ years’ experience leading collaborative theatre-making processes in participatory contexts
• Demonstrable experience working with disabled/neurodivergent young people or young adults
• Demonstrable experience adapting creative processes to support individual access requirements
• Substantial project management experience
• Experience of safeguarding protected adults

Desirable:

• Experience supporting disabled/neurodivergent young people/young adults through transitions
• Experience creating work with creatively embedded access
  Lived experience of disability
