Job summary

Academics is seeking a Year 5 SEN Teaching Assistant in Waltham Forest for a full-time, permanent position starting ASAP. You will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with additional needs and help them engage with lessons, routines and classroom life.

The role involves working closely with the class teacher, promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation and pupil progress in Upper Key Stage 2, with a focus on consistency and professional boundaries.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEN
• Experience managing challenging behaviour preferred

Responsibilities

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with additional needs
• Helping the pupil engage with lessons, activities and classroom routines
• Setting clear expectations and reinforcing positive behaviour
• Supporting emotional regulation and encouraging appropriate responses to challenging situations
• Adapting activities and approaches to suit the pupil's individual needs
• Building a trusting relationship while maintaining professional boundaries
• Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team
• Encouraging greater independence, confidence and responsibility
• Helping the pupil participate positively in school life
