Job summary

A primary academy in Sudbury is seeking a Year 5 Teacher for a two-term appointment. The successful candidate will help pupils strengthen their subject knowledge and prepare for the increased expectations of Year 6.

Role includes teaching Year 5 across core and foundation subjects, developing reading comprehension, writing and maths reasoning, and contributing to year-group planning. QTS is required; experience in upper KS2 is desirable.

Qualifications

• Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Has experience teaching upper Key Stage 2 or a strong understanding of its curriculum.
• Can maintain high expectations while supporting different ability levels.
• Uses assessment effectively to inform planning.

Responsibilities

• Teach the Year 5 curriculum across core and foundation subjects.
• Develop reading comprehension, extended writing and mathematical reasoning.
• Plan lessons that encourage independence and critical thinking.
• Assess pupils’ progress and identify areas requiring additional support.
• Support pupils’ organisation, confidence and readiness for upper Key Stage 2.
• Contribute to year-group planning and wider school activities.
