Job description

Your next teaching role could be closer than you think.

We’re working with a number of welcoming primary schools across Waltham Forest who are looking for a passionate Year 1 Teacher ready to make phonics click, maths come alive, and learning feel exciting every single day.

Year 1 is such a pivotal stage, it’s where confidence grows, curiosity deepens, and those early building blocks really start to stick. You’ll play a key role in supporting pupils as they transition from EYFS into more structured learning, all within a team that values creativity, consistency, and genuine care.

If you love seeing those “lightbulb moments” and want to be part of a school that truly supports its staff, this could be a brilliant next step.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Planning and delivering engaging, creative lessons tailored to Year 1 pupils, in line with the National Curriculum
  • Supporting children through the EYFS to KS1 transition, building confidence, independence, and a love for learning
  • Delivering high-quality phonics sessions, helping pupils develop strong early reading skills
  • Creating a nurturing, structured classroom environment where every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn
  • Adapting teaching to meet the needs of SEND and EAL learners, ensuring every child can access the curriculum
  • Managing behaviour through clear routines, positive reinforcement, and consistency
  • Working closely with TAs, parents, and senior leaders to support each child’s development
  • Playing an active role in the wider school community and upholding safeguarding at all times
What we’re looking for:

The right fit for this role will be someone who:

  • Holds UK QTS
  • Has recent experience teaching Year 1 or KS1, with a strong understanding of early learning development
  • Has secure phonics knowledge and confidence delivering it effectively
  • Brings a calm, positive classroom presence, with strong behaviour management
  • Builds strong, trusting relationships quickly with pupils, staff, and families
  • Is passionate about helping young learners grow in confidence and independence
Why work with Protocol Education?

We keep it simple. Honest conversations, clear communication, and schools that genuinely match what you’re looking for.

You’ll benefit from:
  • Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella companies
  • FREE access to our CPD Academy
  • Personalised support from a dedicated consultant
  • Opportunities across mainstream, SEND, and alternative settings
  • A smooth, straightforward registration process
  • A referral scheme that genuinely rewards you
