Job summary

Vision for Education is seeking an enthusiastic Primary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Kendal, Cumbria, supporting a Year 1 class from asap for the 2026/27 academic year, with potential for a permanent position.

You will assist with reading, writing, phonics and numeracy, deliver targeted phonics interventions and help pupils settle into routines, developing confidence and independent learning.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children in a primary school setting.
• Phonics experience desirable; Read Write Inc. familiarity advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support teaching and learning within a Year 1 classroom.
• Provide general classroom support to the class teacher and pupils throughout the school day.
• Support pupils with early reading, writing, phonics and communication skills.
• Deliver targeted phonics interventions to individuals and small groups where required.
• Help pupils develop their confidence, independence and engagement with learning.
• Assist with classroom organisation and the preparation of learning resources.
• Support pupils in understanding classroom routines and expectations.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
• Help create an inclusive, engaging and nurturing classroom environment.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and staff to support positive learning outcomes.
