Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is assisting an Ipswich primary school to recruit a Year 1 Class Teacher. This full-time, one-year fixed-term position starts ASAP with MPS/UPS pay. The role focuses on early literacy and numeracy, supporting pupils as they transition from early years to Key Stage 1.

The successful candidate will deliver phonics, literacy and math lessons, monitor progress and communicate with families to promote strong learning habits.

Qualifications

• QTS is required for this Year 1 teaching role.
• Experience teaching in EYFS or KS1 is expected.
• Strong knowledge of early reading and phonics essential.
• Patient, organised and nurturing approach advised.
• Ability to adapt teaching to meet different learning needs.

Responsibilities

• Year 1 Teaching: take responsibility for teaching, learning and pastoral needs of the class.
• Phonics: deliver systematic phonics teaching and reinforce early reading.
• Literacy: develop handwriting, vocabulary, sentence construction and reading comprehension.
• Mathematics: build secure foundations in number, calculation and problem-solving.
• Continuous assessment: monitor progress and identify pupils needing extra support.
• Classroom environment: establish routines that support independence and positive behaviour.
• Family communication: engage with parents to support learning.
