Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Yardsman/Yard Operative for our client based in Royston.

The client would be keen to speak to any individuals with mechanical competency or ambitions that may want to upskill and further their career & training.

This is a full time position, Monday - Friday, 40 hour standard working week.

Job Outline

1. Safely load and unload goods from delivery and collection vehicles.
2. Operate yard machinery such as forklifts or telehandlers (with appropriate training).
3. Organize stock and materials in designated storage areas.
4. Prepare customer orders for dispatch or collection.
5. Carry out routine yard maintenance and ensure cleanliness at all times.
6. Assist with regular stock counts and inventory management.
7. Inspect incoming deliveries for accuracy and report any discrepancies.
8. Adhere strictly to health and safety procedures.
9. Offer basic support and guidance to customers, drivers, and on-site personnel.

Skills & Requirements

1. Valid forklift license (preferred).
2. Previous experience in a similar yard, warehouse, or logistics role (essential).
3. Strong physical fitness and ability to lift/move heavy items safely.
4. Basic literacy and numeracy skills for stock recording and order checking.
5. Good communication skills and a proactive, team-focused attitude.
6. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
