Job summary

BCA in the United Kingdom is seeking a hands-on Yard Team Leader to run the day-to-day yard operation, lead the team and ensure vehicles are moved safely, efficiently and on time. This fast-paced role balances people leadership with operational priorities.

You’ll work with the Duty Manager to develop the team, improve processes and maintain high standards of safety, quality and customer service across the site.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Team Leader, Supervisor or Line Manager in an operational/logistics environment.
• A full UK driving licence.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
• Confidence delegating tasks and managing competing priorities.
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and decision making.
• Strong communication, with ability to give clear instructions and feedback.
• Focus on safety, quality and customer service.
• Ability to use IT systems, including Excel and PowerPoint.

Main purpose of the role:

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the yard operation, leading and supporting your team to ensure vehicles are moved safely, efficiently and on time. This is a fast-paced, practical role where you’ll balance people leadership with operational priorities, helping to keep vehicles, customers and colleagues moving.

You’ll work closely with the Duty Manager to manage performance, develop the team and continuously improve the way the yard operates.

What you'll be doing

Leading your team

• Leading, motivating and supporting the Yard team on a day-to-day basis
• Making sure everyone understands their responsibilities, daily priorities and performance expectations
• Coaching and developing team members to help them perform at their best
• Supporting recruitment, onboarding, training, performance reviews and other stages of the employee journey
• Managing attendance, absence and workforce planning to ensure the right level of cover is available
• Identifying training and development needs and supporting future talent within the team
• Creating a positive, supportive working environment where safety, communication and teamwork come first

Keeping the operation running

• Coordinating vehicle movements across the site to support operational areas, buyer collections and collection agents
• Getting involved in vehicle movements when required and leading by example
• Organising workloads and allocating tasks to make sure priorities and targets are achieved
• Managing the layout and flow of the yard to maximise space, efficiency and safety
• Ensuring BCA processes and Standard Operating Procedures are consistently followed
• Monitoring performance against quality, productivity and cost targets
• Identifying operational issues and taking action to resolve them quickly
• Helping to minimise vehicle damage through effective yard organisation and safe working practices
• Making sure the team provides a great service to both internal and external customers
• Working collaboratively with other departments to keep the wider site operation running smoothly

What we’re looking for

You’ll be a confident and approachable leader who enjoys working in a busy, hands-on environment and knows how to get the best from a team.

You’ll also have:

• Previous experience as a Team Leader, Supervisor or Line Manager, ideally within an operational, logistics, automotive or similarly fast-paced environment
• A full UK driving licence
• Strong organisational and time-management skills

You don't necessarily need to come from the automotive industry. What's most important is that you have experience leading people in a fast-paced operational environment, can keep things organised when priorities change and understand how to balance safety, productivity, quality and customer service.
