Job summary

Huws Gray Erdington is seeking a Yard Operative/Relief HGV Driver to support our busy yard and deliver materials locally. The role combines hands-on yard work with occasional local runs in van and HGV, with a focus on safety, customer service and teamwork.

You’ll need a Class 2 licence; forklift licence is a bonus. We offer training, a competitive benefits package and opportunities to progress within the Huws Gray Group.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, knowledgeable service in the yard when not on deliveries.

• Assist with loading/unloading vehicles to meet delivery times.
• Make local deliveries in van and HGV vehicles; support in the yard when not on road.
• Maintain stock security and follow safety procedures.

We’re on the lookout for a Yard Operative/Relief HGV Driver to support our team at Erdington. This is a varied and active role, ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, being part of a practical team, and helping customers get exactly what they need to get the job done.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Yard Operative/Relief HGV Driver, you’ll play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the yard. Here’s what the job involves:

• Providing a friendly, knowledgeable service to customers in the yard when not out in our vehicles delivering materials.
• Safely receiving and organising deliveries - keeping the yard tidy and secure
• Supporting with vehicle loading/unloading - helping the team get deliveries out on time
• Making local deliveries in both our van & HGV vehicles – this will be the main part of the role, and supporting in the yard when not out on the road.
• Being vigilant about stock security and safety procedures

What You’ll Bring

You don’t need to be an expert to get started – we’ll show you the ropes. We’ll give you the training and support to help you feel confident and ready to go. What really matters is that you’ve got a can-do attitude and you’re happy to step in and help wherever it’s needed. You’ll need a Class 2 licence for this one, and if you’ve got a forklift licence too, that’s a nice extra – but it’s not a must-have.

We offer on-the-job training and opportunities to work towards recognised qualifications, including apprenticeships.

We’ll support you to gain your HIAB certification if you don’t already have it. Training will be provided by us, and you’ll become fully qualified to operate HIAB equipment. A training agreement will apply, meaning if you leave the business within a set period after completing the training, you’ll be required to repay the cost
