EH Smith (builders Merchants) Ltd. in Sutton Coldfield is seeking a Yard Operative/HGV Driver to join our branch.

You will work in the yard and warehouse, retrieve stock, pick and prepare orders for loading onto lorries, and occasionally undertake multi-drop deliveries of building materials around the local area. The role offers permanent, full-time employment with sociable hours (no overnights), 42.5 hours per week, and benefits including profit share, enhanced pension and generous annual

• Experience in stock handling in yard/warehouse.
• Valid forklift licence (counterbalance/other).</n>
• HGV Class C licence required.
• HIAB/ALLMI experience preferred.
• Moffett experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Picking orders and serving customers.
• Stock rotation and maintenance.
• Loading/unloading of HGV vehicles safely.
• Driving an HGV vehicle according to schedule.
• Record journey times, mileage and hours worked.
• Pre-trip vehicle inspections and tachograph use.

HGV Driver/Yard Operative, Sutton Coldfield

We have a great opportunity for Yard Operative/HGV Driver to join the team at our Sutton Coldfield branch. You will be working in the yard and warehouse to retrieve stock as well as preparing and picking orders to be loaded onto our lorries for delivery. When required, you will also be making multi-drop deliveries of building materials around the local area in a safe and professional manner.

Person & Skills

The successful candidate will be familiar with all aspects of stock handling and have knowledge of heavy-side building materials. Ideally you will have recent experience of driving a counterbalance and combination forklift, as well as having a valid forklift licence. Additionally, the successful candidate will also need to hold an HGV category C license. A HIAB/ALLMI certificate and HIAB experience, as well as Moffett experience, are all preferred.

• Permanent, full-time employment (part time may be considered upon request)
• Overtime rates, Saturday paid at 1.5x hourly rate, weekdays at 1.25x hourly rate

Key tasks will include

• Picking orders and serving Customers
• Stock rotation and maintenance
• Assisting with Loading / Unloading of HGV vehicles in a safe manner
• Driving an HGV Vehicle in accordance with the Delivery Schedule
• Maintaining records of journey times, mileage and hours worked
• Conducting pre-trip vehicle inspections
• Operating a Tacho-Graph in line with current legislation
• Delivering a safe, First class service to our valued trade customers and members of the public
• Health & Safety awareness/adherence.

Hours

• Sociable hours – no overnight stays or late evenings
• 42.5 hours per week Monday-Friday
• Start and Finish times could be 7:30am-5:00pm / 7:00am-4:30pm / 6:30am-4:00pm
• Participation in the Saturday Morning Rota - typically two Saturday mornings per month which are paid at on top of basic salary at a higher hourly overtime rate
