Job summary

A recruitment agency has an opening for a Yard Operative in Tranent, Scotland. The successful candidate will handle steel and aluminium, manage loading and unloading activities, and maintain a clean work environment. Candidates should have good organizational skills and the ability to work in a team. A Forrklift Licence is preferred. Competitive pay at GBP17.50 per hour is offered.

Qualifications

  • Forrklift Licence is preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in manual handling and yard operations.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Move steel and aluminium in workshop and yard.
  • Load and unload deliveries.
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping.
  • Prepare materials for galvanising and dispatch.

Job description
Yard Operative

As a Yard Operative you will be responsible for moving steel and aluminium around the workshop and yard areas. The role will involve manual handling, as well as using equipment to load and unload deliveries and ensuring the yard is kept well presented.

Rate of pay - GBP17.50 per hour (13 Weeks probationary period CIS / Umbrella)

Shifts - Dayshift Monday - Thursday (Longer hours) OR Monday - Friday (Shorter hours)

Forrklift Licence is prefered but not essential

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Carry out workshop / yard activities in accordance with issued work instructions
  • Complete paperwork as specified
  • Loading/unloading delivery vehicles
  • Prepare fabricated materials to be sent for galvanising and/or despatch
  • Ensure loads are checked before dispatch to ensure items are packed and secured and match paperwork
  • Check in bolts against delivery note
  • Inspect galvanised materials, take remedial action and report any significant concerns
  • Carry out check erection operations
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping in the all areas
  • Carry out manual activities within physical and technical capabilities
Authorities, Interface, Reporting and Supervision
  • Line report to the Shipping Manager
  • Liaise with yard / workshop operatives, as required
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner taking reasonable care of your own and other people s health and safety
  • Follow and adhere to all training received
  • Ensure that HSEQ policies and practices are adhered to
  • Report an accidents, incidents and near misses to the QHSE Manager
  • Wear and look after issued PPE/RPE
  • Maintain records and traceability throughout the fabrication process
  • Not to deliberately interfere with or misuse anything provided to maintain safety and to comply with legislation
  • Participate in risk assessments and comply with controls specified in the risk assessment
