Job summary

Impact Recruitment is assisting a family-run business in Rushden, Northamptonshire, to hire a Yard Operative with telehandler experience. The role covers safe movement and organisation of a yard for cranes and related equipment, with outdoor, hands-on work in a small team.

Salary £31,000–£33,000, permanent contract, hours Mon-Thu 08:00-17:30, Fri 08:00-16:30. You will operate a telehandler, load/unload equipment, perform pre-use checks, and coordinate daily yard movements, with a focus on safety

Qualifications

• Previous telehandler experience in crane yard or construction yard.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience loading/unloading cranes and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and organise daily yard movements.
• Operate a telehandler to move cranes, equipment and materials safely.
• Load and unload cranes, counterweights and associated equipment from transport vehicles.
• Support lifting operations and crane mobilisation/demobilisation.
• Carry out axle changes and equipment checks.
• Complete pre-use inspections of plant and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised outdoor working environment.
• Support stock control and general yard duties.
• Work with transport, operations and engineering teams to move equipment efficiently.

Are you an experienced Yard Operative with telehandler experience and a background in handling heavy equipment? Are you looking for a hands‑on role where you can take responsibility for yard operations, work outdoors and become part of a small, close‑knit team? This could be an excellent opportunity to join a specialist business within the construction industry.

Impact Recruitment are currently working with a family‑run business specialising in the hire and sale of pedestrian‑operated tower cranes across the UK construction industry. They are looking for a Yard Operative to join their team in Rushden, Northamptonshire. This is a permanent position involving the movement, loading and unloading of cranes and associated equipment, with a strong focus on safe working practices and keeping the yard organised.

Location: Rushden, Northamptonshire

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 08:00 - 17:30 | Friday, 08:00 - 16:30

Salary: £31,000 - £33,000 per annum, depending on relevant experience

Contract: Permanent

Duties:

• Coordinate and organise daily yard movements.
• Operate a telehandler to move cranes, equipment and materials safely.
• Load and unload cranes, counterweights and associated equipment from transport vehicles.
• Support lifting operations and crane mobilisation and demobilisation.
• Carry out axle changes and equipment checks.
• Complete pre-use inspections of plant and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised outdoor working environment.
• Support stock control and general yard duties.
• Work closely with transport, operations and engineering teams to ensure the efficient movement of equipment.
• Follow health and safety procedures and safe load-handling practices.

The ideal candidate must:

• Have previous experience in a crane yard, construction yard, plant hire, haulage or heavy equipment environment.
• Have practical telehandler operating experience.
• Have experience loading and unloading plant, machinery or heavy equipment.
• Have a good understanding of lifting operations and safe load handling.
• Hold a full UK driving licence.
• Have strong health and safety awareness.
• Be organised, able to prioritise tasks and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
• Enjoy hands‑on, practical work and be comfortable working outdoors.
• Be able to travel to the Rushden site.

Desirable:

• CPCS or NPORS Telehandler certification.
• Slinger/Signaller qualification.
• Previous mobile crane experience.
• Forklift licence.
• Experience supporting crane mobilisation and demobilisation.
